Beaverdam Ruritan - Frank Pleasants Memorial Scholarship Program


With the generosity of Frank Pleasants, an endowment was bequeathed to the Beaverdam Ruritan Club with the directive that the dividends were to provide scholarships to worthy Patrick Henry High School students who:

When dividends are available, scholarships are issued. The scholarship funds shall be used for the recipient's tuition, room and board, books and or supplies at any Virginia state university, four or two year college, or trade school. The scholarships will provide up to $2,000.00 per recipient depending on the status of the endowment and the number of recipients selected.

Details of the scholarship can be found in the Guidance Counselors Offices at Patrick Henry High School. The scholarship program is directed by the principal of Patrick Henry High School and two members of the Beaverdam Ruritan Club as selected by the membership. Application must be made through the Patrick Henry High School Guidance Counselors.

When dividends are not available, the Beaverdam Ruritan Club will make an effort to provide scholarship funds when the club has the resources available.

Beaverdam Ruritan Club Scholarship Program


When funds are not available through the Beaverdam Ruritan - Frank Pleasants Memorial Scholarship Program, the Beaverdam Ruritan club raises money to provide a scholarship to a graduating Patrick Henry High School student. This student must meet the following requirements:

Scholarships Issued


2014 Scholarship

The Beaverdam Ruritan Club awarded a $250.00 scholarship to Simon "Si" Pittis Strong IV, graduating from Patrick Henry High School in May. Si attended Beaverdam Elementary School from 2001-2007. He is president of the Future Farmers of America (FFA). He is the district winner of Skills USA and a Director on the Virginia Fox Hunters Association and was a member of the Beaverdam Youth League playing baseball from the time he was 6 years old. He will be attending Virginia Tech in the Fall.

2013 Scholarship

The Beaverdam Ruritan Club awarded a $250.00 scholarship to Kyle Palmer, a Patrick Henry High School Graduate in May. He is bound for Radford College, majoring in sports medicine.
